Location technology specialist TomTom announced their latest solution that not only eases traffic congestion but enables the planning of cities, Origin-Destination (O/D) Analysis. The system gives city planners the tools they need to ensure the infrastructure of a city adequately serves the citizens that live in it.
“Our Origin-Destination Analysis will allow cities to tackle congestion at its roots,” said TomTom’s VP of Traffic and Travel Information, Ralf-Peter Schaefer. “By understanding demand and patterns of the everyday movement of vehicles, it is possible to better plan for public transport infrastructure and to improve the balance between different modes of transport.”
The O/D Analysis uses data visualization with advanced technology, fueling both with a 10-year big data archive. It gives city planners information on divers’ preferred routs and trip behavior trends, and helps them determine areas in need of better signage, additional infrastructure, or potential areas for new retail locations.
This system comes bundled as part of TomTom Move, a web portal offering traffic statistics and route monitoring in addition to O/D Analysis. Every one of these systems work to inform cities about traffic flow and density, trip dynamics, and single out real circulation bottlenecks within existing city plans.
