San Francisco based Nurx, a telemedicine startup offering a platform and app to deliver prescribed birth control and HIV prevention medicine directly to each user’s door, is now available in Tennessee and Georgia, bringing availability to 20 states nationwide and Washington D.C.

The app launched in these states helps women take control of their reproductive health at a time of rising reports of accidental pregnancies, as reported by the Center for Disease Control and the National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy.

Nurx offers free health consultation from medical providers and access to reproductive care at little to no cost, based on the user’s insurance plan. Users can then choose their pills from over 50 brands available on the app and have their order delivered to their door. Pills come with automatic refills, free shipping, and discreet packaging to ensure privacy. Prices of the pills vary and users with health insurance can receive pills for free or the cost of their copay, while uninsured users may choose from a variety of affordable, generic brands.

The platform also delivers pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), a pill that reduces the chance of getting HIV infected. PrEP is a pill that, when taken daily, is shown to have a 99 percent effectiveness rate of preventing HIV transmission. Through “comprehensive education and PrEP access, [we] can significantly reduce new HIV infection rates,” stated Jessica Horwitz, Clinical Development Lead at Nurx in a press anouncement.

Plans to expand Nurx are underway as Hans Gangeskar, co-founder and CEO of Nurx stated, “state by state, we are launching Nurx to create equity in healthcare access for all Americans through this urgent telehealth.”
