This past Friday the Greater Newark Enterprises Corporation’s Opportunities and Awards Breakfast entitled “Plan for Success” was held on the NJIT Campus. In addition to presenting a series of community awards, the event was used to celebrate a year of accomplishments.
Since its last awards breakfast, GNEC initiated the marketing of its re-capitalized MicroLoan fund and progressed in its delivery of its entrepreneurial programming in English and Spanish. Through year end 2012 GNEC’s had served 2,206 clients with over 15,040 of instruction hours given.
At the event’s breakfast moderated by GNEC Executive Director Mike Wall, four awards were given:
Small Business (IDUE): Francis Davis, F&J Salon Systems
Small Business (UEDI): Dennis Thomas, FISH Window Cleaning
Community Advocate: Ollyn Lettman, Newark Urban Enterprise Zone
Community Advocate: Ommeed Sathe, Prudential Financial
The keynote speaker was Jeffrey A. Robinson, Ph.D, Senior Fellow at The Center for Urban Entrepreneurship & Economic Development, Rutgers University and Director of the New Jersey Social Innovation Institute. Dr. Robinson is an award winning business school professor, international speaker and entrepreneur. Since 2008 he has been a faculty member at Rutgers Business School and teaches management and entrepreneurship.
