Startup Arlington, a competitive business plan competition, has been launched by Arlington Economic Development to attract tech startups to Arlington’s hotly growing tech hub. The winning entrant will receive three free months of co-working office space, a living space in the area, free legal advice/business counseling, as well as other amenities ranging from complimentary public transportation passes to gym memberships.
Over the past few years, Arlington, VA has emerged as one of the top tech hubs for startups on the east coast. Arlington has many of the elements that make for a dynamic ecosystem where entrepreneurship and innovation can flourish. In addition to a highly educated workforce and a rapidly growing millennial base, Arlington offers a bounty of resources to startups. It is advantageously located near DARPA, the Pentagon, and the Virginia Tech National Capital Research Center. Also, incubators and accelerators like 1776, and co-working spaces offer opportunities for entrepreneurs to readily connect with fellow entrepreneurs.
The Startup Arlington business plan competition formally began on September 15th and has a deadline of October 17th. It is open to founders and/or CEOs of technology-based companies from outside the greater Capital region. The winner will be selected on criteria ranging from how the company would benefit from locating in Arlington to growth potential and business plans.
