On July 25th The Center for Urban Entrepreneurship and Economic Development in collaboration with NJIT showcased university research and Technology via a forum that brought together Students, Partners, and Alumni, Resources of the surrounding Community (TechSPARC). Held at the Rutgers Business School Newark, the event was moderated by Brett Anita Gilbert, Assistant Professor of Rutgers Department of Management & Global Business and Judith Sheft, Associate Vice President Technology Development NJIT. Nineteen technologies and start-ups shared their research and business models via formal oral presentations in the auditorium or poster presentations set up for one on one discussions with attendees.
As noted by Professor Gilbert, “This is just a sampling of the research and innovation being conducted in our universities. One of the reasons for this forum is to make visible to the community the opportunities to license technology from our universities that companies can be started around by sinply doing a search on our web sites.”
In addition to licensing university technology, Judith Sheft described another key resource associated with her university, “NJIT is a research university, as well as the home to New Jersey’s oldest and largest technology based incubator called the EDC (Enterprise Development Center). Some of the companies at this forum are located in the business incubator where they receive assistance to start and grow their businesses in a number of ways. The EDC is a resource for the community.”
