The New Jersey Collegiate Entrepreneur of the Year Competition will once again be hosted by Rider University’s Center for Entrepreneurial Studies– but this time around, the rules are a bit different for aspiring student entrepreneurs.

For the fourth consecutive year, Rider University will provide an opportunity for student entrepreneurs from colleges across New Jersey to compete for prizes and recognition for their entrepreneurial ventures.

This year, eligibility has been opened to achieve for broader participation. Graduate students and part-time students are now eligible, whereas in previous years only full-time undergraduate students could compete. Entrants must have at least a 25 percent ownership of the business used to compete and must have a managerial role.

Submissions will be accepted until Feb. 28. Winners will be selected in late spring by an independent panel of judges based on entrepreneurial spirit, success of business, concern for quality, customer service and more.

Rider University student Timothy D. Abraldes won the 2014 New Jersey Collegiate Entrepreneur of the Year title with his business entitled “Garden State Pressure Washers”. Past winner Anastasia Snyder, who took home the title in 2013, created a concept for selling refurbished parts for pinball games through Ebay, appropriately named “Pinball Girl.”

Sponsors Mercer Wealth Management, ZieglerWorld and the Watchung and Hillsborough Five Guys Burgers and Fries locations allow for a $500 first-place prize, a $250 second-place prize and a plaque for the third-place prize.
