NASA has opened applications for new flight directors at the Johnson Space Center’s mission control in Houston until April 17th. Those selected will lead teams of support personnel, research and engineering experts, and flight controllers across the world, as well as human spaceflight missions involving the International Space Station and beyond.

Selected applicants receive extensive training on vehicle systems and flight control, risk management, and operational leadership. While many of NASA’s flight directors have been NASA flight controllers previously, this is not a prerequisite for application. Final selections for applicants is expected by mid-2018.

“NASA’s missions require strong, creative leaders as human spaceflight continues to evolve,” said the acting chief of Johnson’s Flight Director Office, Holly Ridings. “We are looking for a mix of people with diverse backgrounds to play this critical role and add strength to our flight director team.”

All applicants must be U.S. citizens with at least a bachelor’s degree in mathematics, computer science, engineering, physical science, or biological science. Substantial related and responsible professional experience is required, including decision-making in time-critical, high-risk, high-stress environments.
