The International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) was awarded a $3.45 Million grant from the Motorola Solutions Foundation. This will be the second year in row that the IACP has received this grant. The association is one of the many grant recipients of the Motorola Solutions Foundation which is the philanthropic branch of Motorola Solutions focusing on community building and other charitable endeavors.
The IACP seeks to better train for police officers that will result in a higher level of trust between law enforcement and community members. The executive director and chief executive officer of the IACP, Vincent Talucci declares that “we live in a time of escalating need for productive dialogue on community-police relations”.
According to press release, the IACP “develops training and technical assistance to three pilot sites. The sites will implement recommendations from the White House Task Force on 21st Century Policing, which previously were validated by evidence-based research.”
The Motorola Solutions Foundation has provided grants to 83 non-profit organizations for the purpose of improving the safety and security of communities throughout the US. In the past, the foundation has also rewarded grants to American Red Cross of South Florida, Troops to Firefighters, The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, and others. Organizations have used the grants received to fund public safety education, training and outreach programs open to the community.
Executive director of the Motorola Solutions Foundation, Matt Blakely states that the support they the foundation is offering “will benefit a broad range of communities served by law enforcement officers and staff, fire service personnel, federal agents, emergency medical service providers and our men and women in the military services – both active duty and veterans.”
