The Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s (MIT) Technology Review released their list of the 50 Smartest Companies for 2017 on June 27th. The MIT Technology Review gave special attention to companies working with artificial intelligence, believing it will be a driving force in economic growth.

The MIT Technology Review is an independent digital media company explaining the political, social, and commercial impact new technologies have on society. The list is released as part of MIT Technology Review’s annual business issue, which can be viewed in full on their website.

Nanette Byrnes, senior editor for business, spoke about the list in a press release, saying, “The companies on the list combine a high level of technology innovation with a business model that will help them make the most of it… These are the ones that competitors must follow.”

Nvidia has the top spot on the list, using artificial intelligence expertise to broaden themselves from a producer of chips for gaming to the cutting edge in autonomous vehicles and deep learning. The other top 10 companies are:

  • 5: Alphabet
  • 6: iFlytek
  • 7: Kite Pharma
  • 8: Tencent
  • 9: Regeneron
  • 10: Spark Theraputics
