57% of the world is currently living without Internet access. Under Microsoft’s new Affordable Access Initiative, grants are being offered to those providing solutions to this challenge.
The Initiative is open to “commercial entities for scalable solutions that enable people in underserved communities to access the Internet and use cloud services”. Submissions are due by 11:59 PM on January 15.
Microsoft will award grants to a select few that have the potential to connect the world. Grants will average $75,000.
If applying to the program, the submitted proposal should be a developed low-cost connectivity solution and cloud-based service that can provide lower class communities with Internet. Applicants must also be from a commercial organization with more than two full-time employees.
