This year’s annual Manufacturing Day (MFG Day) is taking place on October 6th, enabling modern manufacturers to address misconceptions about manufacturing while educating participants and showcasing career opportunities. This year’s initiative features over 2,250 events across the country where manufacturers open the doors of their facilities to media, educators, businesspeople, and students.
Originally started in 2012 by the Founding Partner Fabricators and Manufacturers Association, International, MFG Day helps manufacturers all over the U.S. address common concerns and challenges in order to grow the communities they serve. Now working with organizers including the National Association of Manufacturers, and the Manufacturing Institute, MFG Day’s growth has exceeded 1,000% since its founding in 2012.
The MFG events in 2016 reached 595,341 participants, of which 267,607 were students. Through exposure to the events, 89% of attending students said they were more aware of manufacturing jobs within their communities, 84% saw jobs in manufacturing as an interesting and rewarding career choice, and 64% became more motivated to pursuing a career in the field.
Although MFG Day is on October 6th, there are several events that are running before or after this date around the country. A full list of the events is available on the MFG Day website.
