Women entrepreneurs in discussion around a table

The CEO and founder of LiveMe, Yuki He, spoke about her career during the 5th annual Women’s Entrepreneurship Day (WED) Summit held at the United Nations in mid- November. The event speaks to women and girls around the world, encouraging them to become active in their communities and to contribute to their economy. It is a burgeoning global network of women leaders, entrepreneurs and innovators.

Yuki was joined by other notable speakers at the event, but she was the only woman from China on the panel, providing the audience and other attendees her unique perspective, struggles and successes that made her into the notable figure she is today. Her speech stressed the importance of making ‘unpopular choices’, going against the norm to carve out a new and unique path. Her choice to attend a technology university, then later work at an early Tencent, and finally deciding to start her own business with LiveMe is anything but an expected course. The social app is now topping charts with over 80 million users.

“The women in my family — my mother and grandmother — were very strong and independent. They both taught me the importance of believing in yourself and following your own path,” said Yuki.

Other well-known speakers giving their presentations during the WED Summit included fashion designer Anna Sui, Princess Märtha Louise of Norway, and the co-CEO of Bridgewater Associates Eileen Murray. The organization behind the summit, the Women’s Entrepreneurship Day Organization (WEDO), holds chapters within 100 universities and colleges as well as 144 countries, elevating women around the globe to eradicate poverty.
