A new Navigant Research report examined 15 Internet of Things (IoT) platform providers based on their strategy and execution, naming Microsoft, Amazon, IBM, and PTC as the leading IoT platform providers based on 10 criteria. Titled, “Navigant Research Leaderboard: IoT Platform Venders”, the report ranked the 15 vendors on the criteria of their vision, go-to-market strategy, partners, technology, geographic reach, sales, marketing, and distribution, solution performance, product portfolio, pricing, and staying power.
Neil Strother, Navigant Research principal research analyst, talked about the results of the report, saying that, “The crowded IoT value chain has attracted numerous platform vendors, each trying to grab a piece of what has so far been a fragmented market. The leaders in this segment have developed IoT platforms that enable customers to better harness large data sets from devices and sensors, and then turn that data into useful business outcomes.”
Enterprises and utilities working with IoT technologies depend on these vendors to produce IoT platforms that harness increasing numbers of connected devices, large data volumes, and processes. The ongoing challenge IoT vendors face, according to the report, is the need to reduce the complexity of IoT deployment, and to find a way to differentiate themselves from their competitors.
In order to rank the companies in the report, Navigant Research used their proprietary Leaderboard methodology to present readers and industry participants an objective assessment of strengths and weaknesses in the market for IoT platforms
