On March 7th the Internet Society, in partnership with Pew Research Center, is hosting an event entitled: Social Mobile Leap: How Digital Connectivity Affects Emerging Economies in Washington D.C to discuss how mobile technology is impacting communities and the Internet around the world. After conducting a study, The Center will release the findings in a report called “Mobile Connectivity in Emerging Economies” which will be the focal point of the event, discussing mobile phone usage and its social impact on 11 countries worldwide.
In many developing countries, including Colombia, India, Kenya, and Lebanon, mobile internet usage is becoming more popular and accessible to individuals who live there. The Internet Society, which works to promote the evolution and use of the Internet, works with chapters around the world to ensure the technologies used are safe and secure for browsing the web.
The event will take place at the Microsoft Innovation and Policy Center from 3 p.m to 5 p.m, hosting speakers and a panel. Many prominent industry experts, such as Alice Munyua, a Policy Advisor at Mozilla, and Deb Socia, the Executive Director of New Century Cities, will be speaking on the panel on how policy can be used to expand Internet access within more countries around the globe.
