Prominent Venture Capital Firms and Individual Investors back the AI Startup to build world’s largest AI Cluster
While follow on funding is a hurdle for many startups, Inflection AI faces no such challenge. Based in Palo Alto, California the AI startup just raised $1.3 billion in new funding led by some of the most prominent names in technology and venture capital: Microsoft, Reid Hoffman, Bill Gates, Eric Schmidt and newly onboarded NVIDIA.
This huge amount of funding supports Inflection’s ambitious goal of building a highly sophisticated large language model that enables people to engage with Pi as their personal assistant. Interactions occur in a simple and natural way that gives individuals fast and helpful information and advice.
This remarkable innovation is being achieved through Inflection’s partnership with CoreWeave and NVIDIA. Together they are developing the largest AI cluster in the world that is comprised of 22,000 NVIDIA H100 Tensor Core GPUs.
“Personal AI is going to be the most transformational tool of our lifetimes. This is truly an inflection point. We’re excited to collaborate with NVIDIA, Microsoft, and CoreWeave as well as Eric, Bill and many others to bring this vision to life,” said Mustafa Suleyman, CEO and co-founder of Inflection.
Suleyman brings extraordinary experience to the venture having co-founded DeepMind, a British artificial intelligence company acquired by Google and now owned by Alphabet. His artificial intelligence research and success as an entrepreneur gained the support of the tech industry’s top backers, enabling Inflection to take their model that was developed in-house to the next level.
Suleyman’s other co-founders are Chief Scientist Karén Simonyan and Board Member Reid Hoffman. Together they created ‘AI Studio’ that specializes in creating personal AIs. The founders put together an all-star team of AI experts and talent from DeepMind, Google, Microsoft, OpenAI and Meta. It is a Public Benefit Corporation with the bold mission to make personal AIs available to every person in the world.
Pi stands for “personal intelligence” and it serves each person’s interests and needs. With its depth it can take on various roles in each user’s life such as teacher, coach, confidante, creative partner and more. New features are continuously being added, while users can talk to Pi across several platforms.
Described as a “kind and friendly companion” that engages via text and voice, Pi is available free for use on:
- Web: talk with Pi at pi.ai.
- Mobile: download Pi, your personal AI for iPhone or iPad.
- WhatsApp and SMS: add +1 (314) 333-1111 to your contacts to message Pi.
- Instagram: follow @heypi.ai and click here to send Pi a DM.
- Facebook Messenger: click here to get in touch with Pi.
Jensen Huang, founder and CEO of NVIDIA sees the interaction of natural, conversational language with supercomputers as a tool that will simplify people’s everyday lives. He views the partnering of Inflection with NVIDIA’s technology as an unleashing of enormous potential.
“The world-class team at Inflection AI is helping to lead this groundbreaking work, deploying NVIDIA AI technology to develop, train and deploy massive generative AI models that enable amazing personal digital assistants,” says Huang.
Prior to the recent funding round, Inflection raised $225 million soon after its founding, bringing in investors: Greylock, Microsoft, Reid Hoffman, Bill Gates, Eric Schmidt, Mike Schroepfer, Demis Hassabis, Will.i.am, Horizons Ventures, and Dragoneer. Total funding since being founded just last year is $1.525 billion.
Kevin Scott, CTO and EVP AI at Microsoft sums up the excitement swirling around the AI industry, Inflection’s future and what the latest funding round will bring.
“It is an exciting time, and ambitious AI companies like Inflection AI are pioneering the industry with transformative products that are accessible, easy to use, and show the many possibilities of AI.”
