MAKE, a company focused on sharing DIY technology projects, has organized the Greater Newark Mini Maker Faire taking place at the Newark Museum on Saturday, April 11. This event is an opportunity for makers of all types and ages to showcase their own projects including, but not limited to robotics, pottery, woodworking, game design, mosaics, DIY science and 3D Printing.
Moving away from simple displays, the Mini Maker Faire aims to create a fun, interactive environment that will inspire, entertain and connect the maker community. Presenters and speakers will demonstrate their technology projects, revealing the process and materials used through hands-on workshops.
Rick Anderson, the Director of Virtual Worlds at Rutgers University’s Division of Continuing Studies, is a featured speaker. Anderson will give a presentation titled “Minecraft Circuits in Real Life”, based on concepts retrieved from Minecraft, an American video game developer. “I will take the Minecraft game used by so many children and show them how those are transferable skills to real life electronics and making”, says Anderson.
With a location like the Newark Museum, attending the Mini Maker Faire will feel like two forms of entertainment in one. In addition to this event featuring amazing presentations, the largest museum in New Jersey offers 80 galleries of global art and natural science displays including American, African, Asian and Classical collections.
Tickets for the Greater Newark Mini Maker Faire are now on sale until April 9. Tickets are discounted for children, veterans and seniors. Newark residents, Newark museum members and College Students with valid ID receive free admission.
