In an era where diversity is recognized as necessary and a strength, studies show that women remain underrepresented at every level in corporate America, despite many companies committing to increase gender diversity in the workplace. Taking on this challenge is Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA), who announced a new gender parity initiative, called Fair Play, Equal Pay, that will work with businesses to take action now and build a future where the workplace and opportunities are more equitable for women.
Girl Scouts is working with Canadian organization Women in Governance, who will provide expertise in gender parity and analytical tools to help companies achieve higher targets of diversity and make sustainable progress towards equality. Already major companies, including Accenture, Ernst & Young, and SAP have committed to increase female leadership and equal pay, indicating the influence that GSUSA has with their $1 billion in potential purchasing power and relationships with multiple business across the country.
GSUSA is the only organization in the United States to create a dynamic program that challenges entities to complete four vital challenges and earn certification with a unique Girl Scouts Gender Parity Certification Seal. Through the program, companies will sign a parity pledge to increase gender parity within their own organization, complete an assessment of their gender parity status, advance their gender parity status using resources available, and achieve a Girl Scout certificate, promoting their success.
“We’re making progress around all aspects of women’s and girls’ lives, but we can set the bar even higher,” said Jennifer Morgan, Co-CEO of SAP. “We can always be doing more – and this is a critical and necessary step towards raising that bar and putting more young girls and women in positions of leadership. We are expanding our commitment to engage more girls and women in the conversation by sponsoring the Gender Parity Forum this October at G.I.R.L. 2020, GSUSA’s national convention. SAP’s support of GSUSA’s gender parity initiative aligns perfectly with our commitment to empowering women through technology, disrupting what it means to be ‘ready to lead,’ and making sure we have everyone at the table for the tough conversations.”
