Worldwide mobile eSports leader Skillz stands as the first gaming and eSports company to take the PairityPledgeTM for gender equality. They join other tech companies publicly announcing that they’ll interview at least one qualified female for every executive role, helping diversify the male-dominated gaming industry.
Skillz isn’t a stranger to diversity, holding a tagline of, “eSports for Everyone” since their founding in 2012. Currently the company has almost twice the ratio of female to male employees when compared to other tech companies like Google, Microsoft, Uber, and Twitter, and also boasts the most inclusive eSports system on the globe, with more than half of all players being women.
Miriam Aguirre, Skillz Vice President of Engineering, talked about the company’s commitment to inclusion, saying, “The technology and gaming industries under represent women in the workforce and we are an agent of change in an industry that is long overdue. Creating an equitable workplace isn’t just the right thing to do, it’s vital to building a thriving business for tomorrow’s workers.”
The Parity Pledge began in 2017, taking inspiration from the National Football League’s Rooney Rule, requiring league teams to interview qualified minority candidates for senior football management and head coaching roles. In addition to the pledge, Skillz joins SoFi, Cisco, and Lyft as a founding member of Pairity.org.
