Four big affective computing solutions companies have been profiled by International Data Corporation’s IDC Innovators for using innovative technology or a revolutionary business model to create affective computing software. The four companies, Affectiva, NVISO, Cogito, and Sightcorp, use artificial intelligence to detect and recognize human emotion, creating technology that is new to the market but continuously growing with advancements.
The Report titled IDC Innovators: Affective Computing, 2019 is prepared by a business segment analyst who has evaluated vendors with under $100 million in revenue that are offering innovative new technology or a groundbreaking approach to an existing issue, and/or an interesting new business model. The Report is neither an exhaustive evaluation or ranking.
Affectiva works within the automotive industry, using cameras and microphones to analyze drivers and recognize emotional states such as drowsiness and distraction. Cogito creates products that track behavioral signals within customer service, sales, and care workers to provide guidance based on pitch, tone, pace, and vocal tension.
NVISO uses biometric facial recognition technology to help financial advisors better understand their client’s emotions and then build a financial behavioral profile. The last company, Sightcorp, is able to track emotions in the retail space to help stores improve customer satisfaction and provide consumer insight.
“Affective computing is being increasingly used by many types of organizations to augment human capabilities and build trust between humans and the machines they interact with,” said Hayley Sutherland, senior research analyst, at Artificial Intelligence Software at IDC in a press statement. “Organizations in consumer-facing industries like healthcare, automotive, and retail should consider implementing affective computing to differentiate and optimize their interactions.”
