In an effort to help STEM inclined high school seniors afford a higher-level college education, Edison International, the parent company of Southern California Edison, is offering $40,000 to applicants of its Edison Scholarship Program. The program is made to assist STEM high school students who have a financial need attend college and who reside in the Southern California Edison (SCE) area.

Applicants must have a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA, and plan to pursue STEM majors in college like computer and information systems, engineering technology, or physical sciences. The SCE area includes major Californian cities like Beverly Hills, Santa Barbra, and San Bernardino.

The Program was created in 2006 and, since then, Edison International has awarded more than $8.7 million in scholarships, paid over four years in college, to 610 students. Previous recipients of the scholarship have gone on to intern at NASA, work on advancing solar energy, and even work at SCE.

Students who receive the scholarship may also be eligible for summer internships at SCE after completing their second year in college. The application is open until December 14th and applicants will receive notification of their application status in the spring.
