Blank Space, an online platform for architecture, has announced the “Driverless Future Challenge” in order to shape the impact that driverless cars will have in New York City. It is being held in partnership with the City of New York, New Lab, AIANY and Fast Company.
In its’ announcement Blank Space explained that the Challenge’s primary goal is to be a launch pad for designers, innovators, entrepreneurs, architects, futurists, and engineers so they can enact actual changes in New York City.
Blank Space went on to say that the Challenge is not focused on the cars themselves, but on all other aspects of a city’s infrastructure that would interact with them, such as roads, sidewalks, intersections, and parking solutions; their websites goes into more detail by saying, “This can include proposals for services, products, software, hardware, and other buildable interventions within the city.”
For those looking to enter, the Challenge requires a three-minute “pitch” video that shows your proposal’s relation to driverless transportation, three images in any orientation with at least 300 DPI and .jpeg formatting, a 300-400 word text description of your idea, and lastly your team information.
Registration will be open until April 6th, but Late Registration will be available until the submission deadline on May 19th. The challenge is open to all entrepreneurs, engineers, students, creatives, architects, designers, and innovators all over the world, with free registration for the contest available for all current NYC Public School students and IDNYC holders.
