The ongoing digital transformation of our economy and culture is presenting opportunities for innovation across almost all industries. The latest innovation in media and entertainment came via the recent announcement that three media companies are partnering to deliver the world’s first live stand-up comedy shows to cinemas and other out-of-home venues across the country.
Global entertainment company MetaMedia, Laugh Lounge, a producer of exclusive live-streamed stand-up comedy shows, and distributor The Bigger Picture have collaborated to innovatively stream live comedy entertainment. Key to the success of this partnership is Canon’s powerful new 4K UHD PTZ cameras and Cinema EOS cameras that were built for cinema and broadcasting. They will be used by Laugh Lounge to capture the comedy specials.
“Comedy is meant to be enjoyed communally and socially. This unique partnership with Laugh Lounge revolutionizes the cinema-going experience by allowing consumers to share the live stand-up routines from their favorite comedians on the big screen like they’ve never seen before,” said MetaMedia CEO Jason Brenek.
The new entertainment will kick off this fall, with Laugh Lounge producing the live, stand-up comedy shows that MetaMedia’s streaming services will bring to venues across the country. Laugh Lounge has a digital track record in the media and entertainment industry via its online comedy community and other partnerships they have put in place that built on its current live-streams comedy shows seen by tv viewers every week.
“Live Stand-Up Comedy is a unique art form and experience that we are excited about bringing to an ever-expanding audience who may not have always had access to traditional stand-up comedy clubs,” said Laugh Lounge Founder and CEO Claude Shires, “Laugh Lounge was built with the comedy community in mind, and is excited to foster this expanding relationship between artists and fans”.
The Bigger Picture which currently distributes major cinema events is partnering with MetaMedia to distribute Laugh Lounge’s live comedy line-ups across the MetaMedia Entertainment Network ™. The Network is the world’s first global, cloud-based distribution platform for content producers, cinemas, and other out-of-home venues. The live comedy shows will reach cinemas and 1,000 plus out-of-home screens across the United States.
MetaMedia continues to seek out partners to meet their goal of dramatically changing and enhancing the movie going user experience. The company recently partnered with Howie Mandel and Super78 Studios to bring Magic Screen, the world’s first interactive platform for animated and live content, to cinemas around the world. Other partners include Harena Data, Inc., an esports industry leader, and Encore Live, which produces live concerts for drive-ins and cinemas and MacGillivray Freeman Films that produces documentaries and educational events for cinemas.
Streaming content is just one example of the innovation that is occurring in digital media and entertainment. These three partnering companies in the M&E industry are collaborating to expand their reach, giving consumers more enjoyable entertainment options when at the same time many of them are experiencing digital disruption in other parts of their lives.
