David nutrition bar

The company’s rapid scale to over 3,000 retail locations in just one year places it on the path to become the platform of choice for science-backed nutrition.

David, the rapidly growing health and nutrition startup, raised $75 million in Series A funding, led by Greenoaks with participation from Valor Equity Partners. The round follows David’s meteoric rise since its launch in late 2024 and positions the brand for continued growth as a leader in the functional food category.

Founded by Peter Rahal, who previously co-founded RXBAR, David is on a mission to transform how people eat by offering nutritional tools that increase muscle and decrease fat—without sacrificing taste or convenience.

The company’s flagship product, a protein bar with 28 grams of protein, zero sugar, and only 150 calories, has quickly gained traction for having the highest protein-to-calorie ratio on the market.

“Our mission is simple: remove unnecessary calories and sugar from the American diet and replace them with what the body actually needs—high-quality protein,” said Rahal, David’s Co-Founder and CEO. “This investment allows us to scale faster and stay focused on our goal of helping people eat well without compromise.”

Within just eight months of launching, David’s bars are now available in more than 3,000 retail locations, including Wegmans, and the company is on track to surpass $100 million in revenue in its first year.

Acquisition of Epogee Strengthens Supply Chain and Product Innovation

In tandem with its Series A raise, David has acquired Epogee, the food technology company behind EPG—a plant-based fat alternative that enables calorie and fat reduction without affecting taste or texture. The acquisition is a strategic play to secure control over a key ingredient and support the brand’s long-term innovation roadmap.

“We are not here to make another snack. We are here to advance nutrition,” Rahal explained. “With Epogee, we gain control over a vital ingredient that aligns with our nutritional values and enhances our ability to scale with quality and consistency.”

EPG allows for significant calorie reduction without the unpleasant aftertastes or texture challenges often associated with traditional fat replacers. By integrating Epogee’s technology into its operations, David is building a vertically integrated supply chain that supports the production of healthier, science-backed products at scale.

Investor Confidence in David’s Market Disruption

Both Greenoaks and Valor Equity Partners expressed strong confidence in David’s potential to reshape the health food market.

“Consumers have long faced a tradeoff between convenience, taste, and nutrition,” said Neil Shah, partner at Greenoaks. “David breaks that tradeoff. The customer feedback is some of the most passionate we’ve seen in consumer goods. Peter and his team are building something special.”

Greenoaks, whose portfolio includes tech giants like Canva and Stripe, brings a long-term, founder-focused investment approach. Valor Equity Partners offers operational expertise to help David scale its product line, improve logistics, and grow efficiently in a highly competitive market.

Science-Driven Approach and Influential Backers

David’s approach is deeply rooted in scientific research and expert collaboration. Notable early backers include Dr. Layne Norton, Ph.D., Dr. Andrew Huberman, Ph.D., and Dr. Peter Attia, M.D., the latter of whom serves as David’s Chief Science Officer.

These scientific leaders bring credibility and oversight to the product development process, ensuring that every item under the David brand is designed to enhance metabolic health, body composition, and physical performance—without resorting to empty marketing claims.

“We believe in food that actually helps people get stronger, leaner, and healthier,” said Rahal. “That’s what the science shows us, and that’s what we deliver.”

What’s Next for David: Scaling, Innovation, and Market Leadership

With a stronger capital base, proprietary ingredient access, and a fast-growing retail presence, David is preparing to expand its product portfolio. Future offerings may include meal replacements, shakes, and health-focused ready-to-eat foods, all designed with the same focus on muscle gain, fat reduction, and nutritional density.

The company’s vision is to become the platform of choice for science-backed nutrition, serving a broad audience that includes fitness enthusiasts, health-conscious professionals, and anyone seeking performance-based food choices.

As consumers move away from processed snacks and toward functional foods with verified benefits, David is uniquely positioned to meet the moment—with momentum, mission, and market fit.
