Convoy, a Seattle-based startup in the trucking industry, has announced the launch of its innovative on-demand service regional and local trucking. With $2.5 million in venture funding from prominent investors, this startup and its new technology may be on its way to reinventing the trucking industry.
The service application now officially launched by Convoy connects nearby trucking companies with shippers so that they can quickly and easily book shipments. Through the app, carriers will be notified of local bookings available to them while they may also manage the shipments and carry out their booked jobs. Carriers may either accept or decline jobs based on the listed price. After jobs are booked, companies and carriers are both able to track the shipment as it arrives to its destination. All described in its recent press release.
Cofounder and CEO of Convoy, Dan Lewis, says of his startup: “Technology gives an edge to companies that adopt it early, and this is happening in trucking right now. I’ve seen firsthand how much potential this has to improve people’s lives, and I think the day will come when shippers and truckers won’t remember how they did things without Convoy.”
Convoy is being supported with funding from investors such as eBay founder Pierre Omidyar and Expedia CEO Dara Khosrowshahi, which is great validation for a startup and its ability to take on change in the trucking industry. “Convoy has enhanced our ability to deliver timely shipments in a cost-effective manner,” says Jeremiah Fleming, logistics manager at Seattle Goodwill says of the technology. “We strive to stay on top of trends and evolve within the industry, and we need partners like Convoy to help us achieve mission success.”
The service is now available today for carriers and truckers to join the network.
