CollegeNET Inc. just released its annual Social Mobility Index ranking for US universities and colleges.
The innovative Social Mobility Index ranks four-year colleges and universities in the US based on how effectively low-income students are enrolled and graduated into meaningful careers. Its goal is to redirect “prestige” in the higher education community towards colleges and universities that advance economic opportunity.
“Most higher education rankings approach the problem of comparing colleges and universities as steering consumers toward a brand or purchase,” said CEO of CollegeNET, Jim Wolfston. “The SMI, on the other hand, helps policymakers, students and their families see which colleges and universities are addressing the national problem of economic mobility.”
The top 10 schools on the SMI in order of ranking are CUNY Bernard M Baruch College, North Carolina A&T State University, Rowan University, the University of California-Irvine, California State Polytechnic University-Pomona, California State University-Fresno, San Jose State University, California State University-Long Beach, CUNY City College, and CUNY Queens College.
