Student applying for university program

Since its establishment in 2007 by former President Bill Clinton and his daughter Chelsea, the Clinton Global Initiative University has been challenging college students to create new and measurable initiatives to address challenges in education, climate change, public health, and other areas. Undergraduate and graduate students all over the world now have the chance to participate, as the 2021 cohort that is open for applications through January 15th, 2021.

The University program takes place entirely online in a series of four modules throughout the year from February to November. During the program accepted students receive access to high-touch mentorship, funding streams, a curriculum on social impact, and student engagement events.

Any currently enrolled undergraduate or graduate student is eligible to apply, as long the individual has not been previously accepted into the program. Groups comprised of up to three students may also apply. Every application also involves a Commitment to Action, a specific, new, and measurable initiative addressing a pressing global challenge in which the applicant has a connection. All applicants must be at least 18 years old.

Further opportunities are presented within the CGI University program through partnerships with IBM who will provide assistance with app-based projects addressing climate change and COVID-19; Verizon for the development of technology solutions as well as for a pitch for seed funding and a spot in its accelerator program; and with the Peter G. Peterson Foundation to tackle fiscal sustainability and civic issues.
