Canon U.S.A Inc. announced that they are joining The Netflix Post Technology Alliance, a program that assists artists and creatives with the best technology tools for their work. Producers, filmmakers and others who join the Alliance are given a logo to signify that their product meets Netflix technical and delivery specifications and that they are committed to do so in the future.
The program focuses on certifying products in various categories such as cameras, creative editorial, color grading, and IMF packaging. The director of post partnerships and integrations at Netflix, Chris Fetner, explained how the alliance will make it efficient for partners to produce because “products that bear the logo are committed to better interoperability and faster innovation cycles, which will allow artists to focus their energy on what matters most—the storytelling.”
However, Netflix also noted on their website that not every product is included because they are “in the early stages,” and it is unnecessary to attach a logo to every tool used throughout production. Should a company feel that their product is fit to have a logo, they may submit for it to be included in the program.
Four Canon Cinema EOS cameras are included in the program that have already been used by Netflix Originals filmmakers on shows, like Grace and Frankie, and feature films, like Our Souls at Night.
“Netflix’s Post Technology Alliance program aligns perfectly with Canon’s steadfast commitment to providing state-of-the-art, high-quality products and service and support programs,” noted Kazuto Ogawa, president and chief operating officer, Canon U.S.A., Inc. “We are delighted to continue working closely with Netflix to support filmmakers and their dedication to storytelling and creativity.”
