Coinciding with the Lean Startup Machine Weekend recently held on the NJIT campus was The Campus CEO Challenge Final Event and Awards hosted by Dr. Randal Pinkett, Chairman and CEO of BCT Partners, a multimillion dollar management, technology and policy consulting firm. Dr. Pinket is well known through his appearance and winning of the top spot on the television show The Apprentice that awarded him a position with the Trump Organization.
Following The Apprentice Dr. Pinkett wrote “Campus CEO: The Student Entrepreneur’s Guide to Launching a Multi-Million-Dollar Business†that led to the founding of The Campus CEO Challenge. The Challenge was open to high school, college, or graduate student attending an accredited school based in New Jersey. Students already running a business or having a business idea were eligible. Cash prizes included $3,000 for the First Place Winner of the General Category and $2,000 for the First Place Winner of the Green Category.
The winner of the General Category was NJIT student Mariam Selevany of AutisMind that is a business developing innovative products to stimulate the minds of children with Autism. The winner of the Green Category was Abigail Grehlinger of Glassboro High School whose business idea was Free Fitness. In Abigail’s green venture individuals would be able to work out on equipment generating energy that would offset their membership fee as well as reduce the energy requirements and costs of the business.
