The Blockchain for Social Impact Coalition (BSIC) announced a virtual hackathon that will run for one month, September 7th to October 7th. Although the main hackathon is virtual, physical and local events are planned for in-person collaboration. BSIC is an initiative of ConsenSys, a venture production studio based in Brooklyn, NY that promotes the creation of Ethereum blockchain solutions and applications which address social and environmental issues
BSIC implements, develops, and incubates products to address the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals, focusing on four areas: energy and environment, identity and vulnerable peoples, supply chains, and financial inclusion. These four areas also make up the four categories of the virtual hackathon for which participants will develop proof-of-concept solutions.
Ethereum blockchain resources will be provided to developers that includes a robust set of tools and infrastructure for the development of decentralized applications (DApps) to be quickly built and iterated on. This includes TestRPC, Truffle, and MetaMask. Using these tool kits, the aim is to construct applications that shift social and economic paradigms for the benefit of global political, social, and economic prosperity.
BSIC is following up the competition with a conference, inviting teams to pitch the proof-of-concept applications developed during the hackathon to BSIC’s partner organizations to gain investments for continued development.
