NYC BigApps, a civic innovation competition for Manhattan, is still open for entry.
The competition, run annually for seven years, focuses on addressing urban and civic issues within New York City in order to improve the quality-of-life for those who live there.
For this year’s contest, BigApps is offering seven prototyping and ideation workshops to help entrants build a range of products and services to combat urban challenges. This includes problems being faced by the city’s immigrants, youth, and senior population. The workshops cover topics such as the five steps in product development and tools for low-cost prototyping, as well as user research.
The categories for potential BigApps entrants involving the use of technology and data include:
- Expanding transit options, making transit more accessible, and enabling greater ease of use;
- Providing greater access to information, so youth, immigrants, and seniors can make better informed decisions for daily life;
- Building stronger, more resilient communities within Manhattan, through the creation of new opportunities for the target groups to be socially and physically connected.
The deadline for Submissions is April 30th. Winners will be accepted into Civic Hall Labs’ civic accelerator program, will receive promotion and marketing, and will attain eligibility for piloting in LinkNYC kiosks, as well as cash prizes.
