The State of Arkansas has won the State IT Recognition Awards program for the Emerging & Innovative Technologies. This award is issued by the National Association of State Chief Information Officers (NASCIO) and given to states that have created programs which have greatly improved the operation of their state government. Arkansas has demonstrated this by the implementation of Gov2Go which is the country’s very first digital government assistant.
Gov2Go was developed by the Information Network of Arkansas (INA) and was launched in 2015. Being a digital government assistant, it breaks down agency silos and can deliver citizen-centric government interactions through a single channel. Information that is accessible through Gov2Go includes revolving a property assessment, tax payments, car tag renewals, franchise tax, and will send important state-related reminders to its users. Gov2Go is accessible through computer, mobile devices, and Apple Watch. The agent will also offer new features regarding the upcoming 2016 elections to its users.
Mark Myers who is Arkansas’s chief technology director and the director of Arkansas Department of Information Services accepted the award from NASCIO on the state’s behalf. “Arkansas has an impressive resume of national firsts in government technology achievements,” remarks Myers. Myers adds that, “We are honored to be recognized by NASCIO for Gov2Go as another example of how we continually work to create innovative ways to connect citizens to government.”
The award from NASCIO is not the only award that Gov2Go has received, it has received numerous others. These include being listed as one of StateScoop 50 State Innovations for 2016, being a finalist in the Government Computer News 2016 “DIG IT” Award Competition, one of the top eight finalists in the American Council of Technology’s Industry Advisory Council 2016 Igniting Innovation Award, and a finalist in the 2015 Amazon Web Services City on Cloud Innovation Challenge.
