The 6th Annual NAWBO-CJ Business Plan Competition, Supporting Emerging Entrepreneurs’ Development [SEED] is sponsored by the National Association of Women Business Owners – Central Jersey Chapter in collaboration with Rutgers University’s Office of New Ventures and Entrepreneurship. Winners will be announced during a May 20th conference being held at Rutgers University, Douglas Campus, New Brunswick NJ.
Who is eligible?
Open to Rutgers faculty, students, staff and New Jersey Entrepreneurs, this is a great opportunity to help jumpstart or grow your own business. Teams or businesses must be at least 50% woman owned; excising businesses must be less than 2 years old by March 15 to enter.
How will the competition work?
  • Contestants will be solicited from throughout New Jersey
  • Contestants will be judged based on their answers to six [6] key questions (see list below)
  • Judges will select five [5] finalists in early May and invite them to attend the May 20th conference
  • Each of the five [5] finalists will make a three [3] minute presentation before judges and a live audience
  • The winner will be selected that night and receive a prize package worth approximately $15,000
What is the prize?
Based on previous years, the winner will receive approximately $15,000 in prizes ranging from free accounting and legal services to cash in order to support their business.
How to enter the S.E.E.D. competition?
Complete the online application by the March 15th deadline. Only one application per business permitted. There is $35 application fee.
The six Key questions:
1. Provide an executive summary that describes your business. (3000 characters or less)
2. Who is your target market or ideal customer and how do you plan to reach them? (3000 characters or less)
3. What sets your business apart from other businesses in your industry? (3000 characters or less)
4. What are your short-term and long-term goals? (3000 characters or less)
5. What skills or experience do you bring to the business? (3000 characters or less)
6. Summarize the financial needs of your business and how you will meet them. (3000 characters or less)
