A new report from Navigant Research finds that in the growing market for electric vehicles, market players seeking to establish leadership are focusing on traction motor technology. Titled, “Transportation Electrification Drives Motor and Power Electronics Innovation”, the report also details how vehicle electrification is driving investments all across control electronics and electric motor technologies.
Sam Abuelsamid, Navigant Research senior research analyst, spoke about the researched trends in a press release, saying, “In their effort to retain profitability while ensuring these new propulsion systems remain affordable to consumers, these companies are working aggressively to improve the efficiency and reduce the cost of some of the core components, particularly the traction motors and power electronics.”
In addition, numerous manufacturers announced plans in 2017 for 48 V mild-hybrid powertrains across their vehicle lineups as standard equipment. To support these plans, automakers and suppliers dramatically need to expand electrified offerings to increase electrical power, achieve reductions in emissions, as well as gains in fuel efficiency.
The study examines historical, current, and future trends in vehicular electrification solutions and breaks down the key components of electric drive systems. Additionally, it provides recommendations for industry players regarding major areas that can assist the growth of the electrification components market.
