The Black Hat USA conference, an annual gathering of the global cybersecurity community, completes this year’s event with the announcement of the winners of the annual Black Unicorn Awards now held for the third consecutive year.  The Awards recognize cybersecurity companies in a range of competing categories that includes The Top Ten Cybersecurity Startups for 2021.

This year’s conference was hybrid, holding four days of virtual trainings in real time and two days of a live activities held in Las Vegas on August 4th and 5th.  Now in its 24th year, the conference joined with Cyber Defense Magazine to host the Black Unicorn Awards on the Magazine’s Cyber Defense Awards platform.

The top cybersecurity startups selected where judged for their potential to achieve a $1 billion valuation that is the prestigious unicorn status. Both private and public investment sources were used to make the award determination.

The top ten cybersecurity startups for 2021 are:

  • CrowdSec: An open-source and collaborative EDR that analyzes behaviors, respond to attacks & share signals across the community,
  • Defendify: Pioneering cybersecurity for organizations without security teams,
  • Don’t Be Breached: Offering its Database Cyber Security Guard product that detects and prevents confidential database data theft by Hackers, Supply Chain Attacks and others,
  • Hyperproof: Serves as a system of record for an organization’s compliance data and gives teams involved in compliance the tools they need to collaborate with stakeholders in and outside of their organization,
  • Keyavi Data Corp.: Infuses security into the data itself – preventing hackers and unauthorized users from being able to access your content even if they possess your files,
  • Stellar Cyber, Inc.: Offers the only security operations platform providing high-speed, high-fidelity threat detection and automated response across the entire attack surface, and 
  • Strata Identity: Offers its Strata’s Maverics Identity Orchestration Platform™ that is the first distributed, standards-based orchestration solution that automates multi-cloud and hybrid cloud identity management.
