Continuing its commitment to foster innovation to address healthcare issues, Bayer dedicated up to $1 million in grants for their second annual Pulmonary Hypertension Accelerated Bayer (PHAB) Awards, supporting clinical research in pulmonary hypertension. Among the largest industry-fueled grant programs aimed at this sector of research, the 2020 launch focuses on pulmonary arterial hypertension (PHA) and chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH).
A total of 8 grants are available through the program, at varying levels and with different funding amounts. Any pulmonary hypertension (PH) professionals in the United States can apply. Although applications are open, no timetable or deadlines for the program exist at time of writing. Bayer is waiting to know the full extent of the COVID-19 outbreak before concrete deadlines go into place.
Sameer Bansilal, M.D., M.S., Senior Medical Director of U.S. Medical Affairs at Bayer, spoke about the goals of the grant program overall. “There is still much that can be done to help improve patient care, and we are confident that this program will continue to spark critical, and innovative thinking that we hope will result in tangible results for patients.”
Every grant award is based on the approximate fair market value of the research conducted, and lasts for two years. The four categories for submissions are:
- Level 1, awarding up to $50,000 for PH healthcare professionals like nurses, pharmacists, and psychologists.
- Level 2, awarding up to $100,000 for fellows to support research completed within the first two years of their first faculty position.
- Level 3, awarding up to $150,000 for pulmonary hypertension professionals with less than 7 years since their terminal training degree.
- Level 4, awarding up to $200,000 for investigators planning clinical trials in up to four sites within the United States.
