San Diego Angel Conference sets dates for its entrepreneur and investor programs leading up to its Spring Conference

Building on the success of this year’s event, the San Diego Angel Conference (SDAC) announced the launch of SDAC VI Fund, a fund and program focused on connecting startups with accredited angel investors.  The Conference, founded by Executive Director Mysty Rusk, is an ongoing program within University of San Diego (USD) Knauss School of Business in partnership with The Brink SBDC.

“Our goals are to activate accredited investors and fund innovative, early-stage companies developing potentially disruptive products and services. USD’s Free Enterprise Institute, Brink SBDC, and SDAC collaborate seamlessly to ‘get to yes!’ as USD leads in bolstering values-driven free enterprise by supporting an enduring network of entrepreneurs, partners, sponsors, and investors.”

This year’s announced program serves to activate accredited angel investors as well as offer a range of assistance to promising early-stage companies who later connect at the upcoming annual spring conference.

The participating accredited investors gain good deal flow, become part of a network of investors and have an opportunity to refine their own decision-making around investing. Information about the SDAC VI fund and participating in investor education, networking, and USD President’s Club events, visit www.thesdangels.com/angel-investor.

Entrepreneurs who are accepted into the program receive mentoring, education, resources and valuable connections.  Those who are targeting a 10X return within five years are eligible. The deadline to apply for potential funding is Dec. 19 at www.thesdangels.com/apply.

Based on last year’s successful Conference, the winning company receives a substantial investment.  Approximately 100 early-stage companies participated in the program and vied for a share of an investment fund of $200,000* or more each year.

Last year’s top winner, LIMBER Prosthetics & Orthotics, received an investment of $263,000, plus follow-on investments from SDAC angels for a total investment of $398,000. Runners-up were Relavo, receiving $150,000 and Athletiverse, receiving $100,000.

Over five years, the California-based SDAC has invested $4.6M directly in 17 portfolio companies. Monitoring all companies that apply and all investors that participate, SDAC has tracked over $191M to date.

SDAC investors begin reviewing deal submissions in February.

*Actual amount invested depends on the total dollars raised. Historically, investors have exceeded both the estimated investment amount and number of companies funded.
