The New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) is the “primary engine for economic development, charged with leveraging the City’s assets to drive growth, create jobs, and improve quality of life,” according to its web site that lists commercial space around the five boroughs of New York City.
NYCEDC encourages startups and small businesses to check these facilities:
– BKLYN Army Terminal Advantage: areas that range from 100 feet to 140,000 square feet is available to lease with the flexibility to rent additional space as a business grows.
– Bush Terminal Industrial Complex: 2,500 square foot spaces located near the waterfront near Sunset Park in Brooklyn
– East New York Incubator Industrial Space: located on Powell Street West, Brooklyn offers industrial, manufacturing, and back-office spaces. Minority and/or women-owned businesses are encouraged to apply for space.
– East River Science Park: a campus for life science companies that serves to provide space for academic and medical services.
– Essex Street Market: 15,000 sq feet in total along with 9,000 sqt feet of stall space for local merchants. Business owners interested in selling organic foods and artisan products are encouraged to lease.
– Harlem Biospace; a biotech incubator that offers affordable shared space for wet-labs situated between multiple NYC universities and close to public transportation.
– La Marqueta; a space for local food and retail vendors located in East Harlem which features discounted leases, affordable off-street parking and on-site maintenance staff.
– Staten Island Ferry Terminals Retail: 36,000 sq feet along with windows that offers views to the waterfront scenery and natural lighting. Public and indoor seating is also a feature along with a free ferry service.
