Female students looking forward to careers in engineering, autonomous driving, and mobility fields have been given a brand-new avenue to chase their dream. Hyundai unveiled their Women in STEM Scholarship in celebration of International Women’s Day. The scholarship will award five women STEM students a scholarship worth $10,000 each.
The scholarship makes an effort to close the gender gap in these fields, which traditionally have many more men than women. This philosophy reflects Hyundai’s larger commitment to doing better in everything they do. A subsidiary of Hyundai Motor Company of Korea, Hyundai Motor America offers a technology-rich lineup of cars and SUVs using traditional and alternative power methods.
Interested students only have to write an essay of 500 words or more, talking about why they’ve chosen a STEM-related field and what drives them to be better. All applicants must be female, high school seniors or undergraduates, and reside in the United States. Essays can be submitted until June 30th, 2020.
“At Hyundai, we understand that building a better future starts with investing in the young women inventing it today,” said the CMO of Hyundai Motor America, Angela Zepeda. “We hope this scholarship program helps funnel more women into the STEM fields, resulting in a significant impact to the gender gap that still exists today.”
