With the goal of catalyzing global healthcare innovation, venture fund Wavemaker 360 announced its celebration of having made 50 investments in healthcare disrupters in 50 months.  The fund focuses on healthcare startups in the areas of health-tech, digital health, medical device, telehealth, artificial intelligence, pharma-tech, and marketplaces.

In just over four plus years California-based Wavemaker 360 has invested in a range of healthcare companies, located mostly in the U.S., but also in Western Europe, Canada and Asia. During that period the fund placed over $20 million into companies joining its portfolio, while the companies themselves raised over $750 million.  In aggregate, the valuation of Wavemaker 360’s portfolio companies now exceeds $2.5BB—an astounding accomplishment worthy of celebration.

John G. Nackel, Founder and General Partner of Wavemaker 360, views their healthcare focused investment portfolio as the future of healthcare. By gathering “outstanding entrepreneurs and disruptive products and services” the fund joins the future trajectory of healthcare innovation—with goal of having an important role.

“Anyone who works in healthcare, whether on the investment side, or as a clinician, in a lab or in a field, understands the dire need for healthcare transformation on a global scale.  Wavemaker360 truly executes on its vision of value-based healthcare by investing in the companies that will make it a reality,” said Nackel.

How did Wavemaker 360 achieve such a feat of investing is in so many early-stage (primarily seed) healthcare startups?

They attribute it to the backgrounds of their eight partners who have over 200 years of collective healthcare and venture capital experience. In addition, they gather executive-level professionals having notable careers in health systems administration, provider economics, Government sponsored healthcare, healthcare staffing, digital health and more.

Wavemaker 360 separates itself from other venture capital firms through its network of 300 Limited Partners (LPs) comprised of notable healthcare organizations, prominent industry executives, and renowned physicians. The LPs provide another element of support to portfolio companies, uniquely guiding their progress.

The healthcare-focused fund’s portfolio includes: Trusted Health, Iterative Health (formerly Iterative Scopes), DeepScribe, Carlsmed, Luna, Materna Medical, Ready Set Food!, Regard (formerly HealthTensor), Third Eye Health, and Triple Blind and others.  The fund has already achieved multiple prosperous exits.

“Wavemaker360 truly executes on its vision of value-based healthcare by investing in the companies that will make it a reality,” says Phil Martie, CEO, Nicolette, Inc. “Their investment in Nicolette and resource-rich partnership were critical for us in acquiring our first contracts and implementing them with excellence. They have served as an extension of the Nicolette team, helping us solve problems and seize opportunities to improve and grow as a company. We still have much to achieve on our startup journey and it is great to know they will be by our side all the way to the finish line.”

Wavemaker 360’s extensive investment in healthcare innovations places it at top of this sector. Their Healthcare Venture Fund provides great opportunities to healthcare startups both in terms of funding and leadership.
