For the last 16 years L’Oréal USA demonstrated their commitment to women in scientific fields through over $4 million in grants. 2020 isn’t breaking this trend, with L’Oréal announcing the application period for the next Women in Science Fellowship Program. It provides five U.S.-based female postdoctoral scientists $60,000 in grants to help their research, as well as mentorship, media training, and access to a robust network of fellow scientists.

Dr. Sara Aton, Associate Professor of Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology at the University of Michigan, and a 2008 FWIS fellow, said, “The research I started under the L’Oréal USA For Women in Science fellowship evolved into the scientific program of my own lab, the success of which in turn drove my recent tenure decision. Receiving the FWIS fellowship had ramifications for my career 10 years down the road. It made all the difference at a critical point in my career trajectory.”

L’Oréal believes that the world needs science, that science needs women, and that women in science can change the world for the better. The contest represents the American piece of L’Oréal-UNESCO’s For Women In Science International Awards program, and recognizes women in any field of research at a critical stage, and those mentoring future scientists in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) fields.

Interested scientists have until January 31st, 2020 to submit an application. L’Oréal and the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) are looking for exceptional academic records, letters of recommendation from advisors, demonstrated success or an interest in supporting women in STEM, and clear research proposals with potential for scientific advancement.
