Verb Surgical Inc. with their world-class data science and robotics is pushing surgery into the future. Now with Johnson & Johnson acquiring the remaining stake, the company will be able to expand its global reach while gaining greater access to health care expertise. This follows Johnson & Johnson’s strategic collaboration with Alphabet-company Verily that specializes in health data.

This acquisition further cements Johnson & Johnson’s digital surgery portfolio. Verily’s engineering and digital technology experience combines with Verb Surgical’s strengths, plus Johnson & Johnson’s existing community of experts. They are positioned to bring their digital solutions, medical technology, and science insights to medical interventions of all kinds, including endoluminal, percutaneous, laparoscopic, and open surgery procedures.

“With Verb Surgical, we set out with an ambitious mission to successfully harmonize the talent and expertise of two pioneers to design a platform with the potential to transform surgery,” said Verily CEO Andrew Conrad. “This evolution in the collaboration recognizes the significant achievement toward that mission and I’m excited for the future of this technology in Johnson & Johnson’s hands.”

Financial terms of the transaction were disclosed, but the transaction is expected to close during the first half of 2020. Ashley McEvoy, Worldwide Chairman, Medical Devices, Johnson & Johnson, said that their collaboration with Verily enabled them to further their goal of improving patient outcomes all around the world. They remain dedicated to building…a truly differentiated digital surgery ecosystem to change the standard of care for generations to come.”
