ELabNYC, a program supporting bio and healthcare startups in NYC, held its 2015 Third Annual Pitch Day on April 2 at the Microsoft Technology Center. After 6 months of extensive training, 20 graduating startups presented their companies to an audience comprised of entrepreneurs, investors, industry experts and mentors.
The participating startups, seeking to commercialize their research, presented a wide variety of unique solutions to healthcare issues. Issues ranged from nutrition to autism, cancer and addiction such as:
Sam Frons and Ryan Wilhelm created a social addiction recovery platform called Addicaid that helps lead addicts and alcoholics to permanent recoveries.
Ehsan Sarafraz-Yazdi and Kamyar Neshvadian formed NomoCan Pharmaceuticals, a company developing a targeted therapy treatment to predict a patient’s chances of recovery and expected outcome of pancreatic cancer.
Louise Tiranoff’s company, GeneticaLens, is introducing a product called Well Child Lens which can screen all aspects of autism in toddlers.
Frank Minella created a software called The PainQx System that accurately measures chronic and acute pain levels in both humans and animals.
Fontasha Powell and Eliot Kim created S.A.L.T., a medical device that uses a mobile app and two urine strips to quickly and accurately measure salt levels in urine.
Linda Sharkus, the Co-Founder and president of AcquiSci Inc., served as a mentor to three startups creating medical devices. “It was so impressive seeing the results of Mary Howard and her team’s hard work with emerging entrepreneurs who participated in the ElabNYC program. The 20 startup companies who presented were outstanding. I have worked as a mentor since ElabNYC‘s inception and this year mentored the founders of three medical device companies. The founders of all three companies show the commitment and capability to take their technologies to the next level. Thank you ElabNYC for introducing new potential products to our world!”
