Music to parent’s ears is possibly the only way to describe how parents will view the breakthrough disruptive technology that eliminates the challenge they face when putting their children to sleep and the sleep deprivation they experience while parenting.  Damian Kimmelman and Modern Day Mary Poppins Miss Megan’s collaboration does just that via their startup’s recently launched first product, The Batelle Sleep School. It is based on a methodology that counters children’s resistance to sleeping that achieves a peaceful settling down in less than five minutes

The childcare tech startup is on a mission to revolutionize the childcare industry of personalized child care and education—an industry that historically is unscalable. Serial entrepreneur and 4X tech founder Damian Kimmelman and Modern Day Mary Poppins Miss Megan raised $4M to launch Batelle, offering high-tech solutions to support children’s mental, emotional, and physical development. Investors include entrepreneur Christian Angermayer with additional funding from Wise Co-Founder Taavet Hinrikus.

“I kept hearing from new parents that sleep seemed to be an unsolvable problem, unless you were willing to pay a fortune for a Mary Poppins-esque person who would come to your home, solve the problem, and leave. The catch: the waiting lists were long and the prices steep. When I met one of these magical sources, Miss Megan, I knew we could scale the impact of her method by bringing it to people’s pockets,” said Damian Kimmelman.

Kimmelman who specializes in user experiences based on proprietary software and hardware tools   developed the high tech platform that reflects Miss Megan’s ‘magical’ experience she offers as both a teacher and coach to her client families.

Miss Megan, a baby expert with 25+ years of experience working with high-profile and celebrity families, developed the School’s methodology based on her firsthand experience and research on the science of sleep.  This led to a 10 step program that is tailored to a child’s age and stage of development.

The platform includes:

  • A privacy-by-design camera that streams through your device so Batelle sleep guides can give you immediate feedback 24 hours a day.
  • Text-to-speech, which allows parents to hear live feedback from the sleep trainers and skip reading instructions when tending to their child
  • A response system that automatically soothes children in the middle of the night
  • A timer that is built-into the Batelle App
  • AI-driven knowledge base that assists in tailoring Miss Megan’s Method to each individual family and stage of development

In addition, each family receives a Batelle Starter Pack comprised of a color light that helps children understand when to sleep and when to wake up; The Hug, a sleep sack that gives children a sense of security and helps them learn to stay happily in bed; and, bespoke sleep mantras.

The 95% success rate of parents using Batelle gives them back an average of 60 days-worth of sleep or precious time back. But Miss Megan believes that is only the start of lifestyle benefits to both children and their parents that their childcare startup will bring to them.

“Sleep is foundational to creating lifelong resiliency and capacity for learning. With Sleep School, not only do we solve the problem of sleep, we also teach children other valuable life skills in the process: how to self-regulate, develop resilience and gain independence”.

The two week Batelle program includes live coaching calls, access to a library of instructions and demonstrations, and a community of like-minded parents, 24-hour support.

But Battelle’s commitment does not end after a family successfully completes the program. They will address any sleep regression up until a child is five years old. The startup’s co-founders are also committed to disrupting childcare and education in other areas and The Battelle School is only the first of other product offerings to be launched.
