Employers are showing strong interest in hiring workers–a report released by ManpowerGroup reveals, noting that intentions to hire is at the highest point in 12 years, and employers are set to offer more benefits to lure potential employees. The report, titled “ManpowerGroup Employment Outlook Survey,” surveyed over 12,500 US employers across 13 industry sectors, of which 23 percent stated plans to hire.
The Transportation and Utilities sector shows the highest intent to hire, as consumers are expecting more on-demand delivery, with the Leisure and Hospitality coming in second due to more Americans feeling financially comfortable enough to travel and tour. The Professional and Business Services sector has the third strongest intent, as employers are increasingly looking to hire people for insurance and information technology jobs.
Employers in the South show the strongest Outlook, as the manufacturing sector is at its highest since 2005, while employers in the Midwest and West report that hiring will remain stagnant for Q1 of 2019. Hiring intention is at a 12 year high in the Northeast, in part due to a stronger Wholesale and Retail Trade, as well as Durable Goods Manufacturing sector.
“With so many U.S. organizations set to hire in an already tight labor market, skilled workers can call the shots. For some workers benefits including childcare facilities, free transportation, or the offer of certification and career progression are key. We’ve seen large organizations increase wages and add new perks and benefits like unlimited paid-time-off to compete for talent. Employers can increase their offer, yet ultimately there is a finite supply of skilled talent, unless we’re investing in development and giving employees the chance to upskill, move up and earn more,” said Becky Frankiewicz, President of ManpowerGroup North America.
