The ongoing and steady interest in the possibilities surrounding the Internet of Things, better known as IoT, includes new and innovative ways to create future smart homes and buildings via both consumer and business applications.

In light of this IoT revolution, a major expo will be held by Technical Manufacturing Corporation, TMC, and Crossfire Media on Jan 25-28, 2016 at the Greater Ft. Lauderdale/Broward County Convention Center in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The “IoT Connected Home & Building Conference” will solely focus on IoT applications for the home and building.

“The conference focuses will focus on how controlling nearly all aspects of buildings and homes will provide meaningful functionality for consumers while also providing businesses with remote diagnostics, maintenance and analytics capabilities that will save money and drive new products,” according to the conference’s web site.

IoT is any physical object that can be assigned an IP address to transfer data over a network, according to whatis.techtarget.com. IoT now extends to home devices, as well as a range of areas including automobile sensors that alert the driver when tire pressure is low.

“This is more than homes. Homes and Buildings turn out not to be made of brick and mortar, but a wide array of opportunities for residents and occupants to do everything from keeping the pipes from freezing to setting a mood with lighting,” Carl Ford, CEO of Crossfire Media and Executive Director of Content for IoT Evolution Connected Home & Building Conference, said in a recent press release. “We are delighted to highlight the opportunity to bundle sensors with services to create environments matching the customer’s needs.”

The expo will include facility management sessions that focus on the different ways building owners and operators will use IoT to mechanize office and residential buildings. It will also include consumer sessions that will focus on other applications for IoT such as security, food, smart devices, and management, among others.

Some of the panels include Why OT Trumps IT, Retailers Meet Consumers with IoT Solutions, and Remote Patient Care, mHealth and TeleMedicine.
