Awake Security announced on July 17th the raising of over $30 million thanks to Greylock Partners and Bain Capital Ventures, with Enrique Salem, Bain Capital Ventures managing director, and Asheem Chandna, a Greylock Partners partner, joining the Awake Security board of directors. As part of this announcement, the company launched and announced the availability of its advanced security analytics solution.
Awake Security currently provides the only advanced security analytics solution, using its patent-pending Security Knowledge Graph data model, to automate the analyses investigators normally perform. Using human-friendly vocabulary to explain entities, attributes, activities, behaviors, and relationships instead of sessions and IP addresses, the interface increases investigating team productivity by a factor of ten.
Michael Callahan, CEO and co-founder of Awake Security, talked about the demands of modern security operation centers (SOCs) in a press release, saying, “Today’s SOC is in trouble: the work is grueling, repetitive and tedious – yet high stakes and high pressure, all of which leads to analyst burnout and lost tribal knowledge. To address this, we’re taking a fundamentally different approach, automating the information gathering and interpretation that top experts perform, allowing any analyst to answer questions easily that are difficult or impossible to answer today.”
The Awake team’s multidisciplinary experience is built on employees who previously worked with FireEye, CipherCloud, ArcSight (HP), Netwitness (RSA), Nicira (VMware), PolyServe (HP) and other well-known products. Their prior experience gives them a complete understanding of shortcomings of existing solutions, as well as knowing how to leverage machine learning, data science, and networking technologies to improve them.
