Eight un-identified senior crypto veterans lead the development of “tomi” that will pursue top-tier publishers
Over the past few years the murmurs of disenchantment with the internet have grown louder. tomi, an anonymous project led by eight big names in crypto, is building an alternative internet that will address a range of internet-related challenges that includes censorship, terror, child porn, other forms of violence and monetization.
Those anonymous individual founders behind the DAO-governed alternative internet network believe that government and corporate surveillance and censorship is becoming more “stringent”, while the “dark web” network that fosters illicit activities grows.
DWF Labs, a global asset market maker and multi-stage Web3 investment firm, led the funding round with Ticker Capital, Piha Equities, Japanese crypto whale and community leader Hirokado Kohji and other private investors also participating. Tomi will use the funds to bring on big-name content creators and publishers that ensure users have a secure access to high-quality content.

Possibly what is most intriguing about the alternative internet is to see how it will function at scale. One of the core premises behind the project is that the community-led tomiDAO that governs the network will vote down access of unhealthy, illegal and hurtful content—addressing a major criticism of the current WorldWideWeb. This approach will make the tomi surveillance-free, according to the founders in a recent press statement.
The tomi community will also vote on proposals such as code alterations and censorship that doesn’t meet the network’s community guidelines. A fairer monetization plan will be presented that helps creators focus on the content itself, avoiding distracting sponsorship mentions and ad breaks. Additional technologies ensuring the privacy of tomiPAY users and tomiDAO members are being developed.
Grachev believes that the offering of fairer monetization combined with the development of technologies that ensure privacy is the strength of their alternative internet model. Content creators and users will be drawn to the new experience the eight anonymous founders create.
