The company’s latest funding round brings valuation to $1 billion, achieving Unicorn status.
A major announcement by Nimble, a pioneer in AI robotics and autonomous fulfillment technology, reflects how committed large companies are to the future of artificial intelligence. Nimble revealed that FedEx which led Nimble’s $106 million Series C funding round will also become a strategic client, using its breakthrough AI technology to scale its FedEx Fulfillment service.
Two factors make this an important announcement. Nimble’s technology replaces existing patchwork systems that have limited the adoption of robotics to just 10% of the market while improving the ROI of robotics which has been historically unattractive.
Simon Kalouche, founder and CEO of Nimble, describes how Nimble’s AI robotic technology has solved the hurdles of robotics adoption and low ROI.
“Nimble directly addresses this gap with turnkey autonomous fulfillment centers powered by our intelligent general-purpose warehouse robots—the first to reliably and cost-effectively handle all core fulfillment tasks. Our end-to-end fulfillment system replaces over a dozen individual pieces of equipment and software, streamlining installation, operations, maintenance, and scalability while eliminating as much as 70% of the cost,” said Kalouche.
The AI Robotics and Fulfillment technology company sees a sizeable addressable market as described in a Meteor Space article, “Important Warehouse Automation Statistics You Can’t Ignore”, touting the potential of its technology. The article indicates that 90% of warehouses operate manually with minimal or no robotics. Even the most automated warehouses use robots with limited intelligence that handle just a few warehouse functions—primarily storage and retrieval.
Fei-Fei Li, AI pioneer, and Nimble Board Director, describes how Nimble’s technology will transform FedEx’s operations and other companies in the future.
“By collecting a large-scale data set, training state-of-the-art AI models, and engineering custom mobile manipulator robot hardware, Nimble has unlocked a new generation of fully autonomous turnkey fulfillment centers that are simple, reliable, and more cost-efficient,” said Li.
The company’s vision is to serve clients from the warehouse floor to the consumer’s door. Their AI robotics will enable the fastest, most efficient, and most sustainable supply chains which has gained FedEx’s commitment.
Scott Temple, President of FedEx Supply Chain, commented on the two companies’ strategic alliance.
“Nimble’s cutting-edge AI robotics and autonomous fulfillment systems will help streamline operations for our team members and unlock new opportunities for our customers. We’re excited to scale with Nimble’s technology to make our team members’ work easier while providing a differentiated, industry-leading fulfillment service.”
