Tyler Niday, co-founder and CEO of Bonsai Robotics, sees the company’s success as a validation of their progress since their seed round of funding just one year ago.

In 2022 Niday and Ugur Oezdemir co-founded Bonsai, combining their extensive backgrounds in agricultural technology and robotics. Tyler, having spent seven years at Blue River Technology and John Deere, played a key role in pioneering the “See & Spray” technology and was the founding engineer of the autonomy team. Prior to that, he designed agricultural equipment for the tree nut industry.

As CTO, Ugur Oezdemir leads the company’s technological vision, drawing on over a decade of experience in robotics and computer vision. He was instrumental in developing the vision-based autonomy stack at both John Deere and Blue River Technology, driving key innovations in agricultural robotics.

The funding is timely as Bonsai tackles the industry’s most pressing challenges, including labor shortages, rising operational costs, and broader sustainability and climate change issues.

Its portfolio already includes over 40 deployed units across the U.S. and Australia. The Visionsteer™ platform has proven to be a powerful tool for growers looking to optimize crop production, reduce costs, and improve overall farm efficiency.

The recently closed Series A funding round was led by Bison Ventures with participation from Cibus Capital, Acre Venture Partners, Congruent Ventures, Fall Line Capital, E14 Fund, SNR, and Serra Ventures. It enables the California-based company to expand its platform, refine its software, and extend its partnerships with original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and growers. This step is critical for Bonsai’s broader goal of providing physical AI technology that addresses the most urgent challenges in agriculture today.

With an emphasis on improving efficiencies in crop production, Bonsai aims to help growers achieve better yields, lower their operational costs, and address critical issues such as food security and climate change.
