The PegaWorld conference that was held this past week to focus on the transformative power of tech gave center stage to global non-profit Girls in Tech, with the announcement that through Girls in Tech’s partnership with Pegasystems Inc. over $400,000 had been raised to support the advancement of women in tech. Pegasystems, a digital software company, pledged $500 to Girls in Tech for every eligible PegaWorld registration that occurred over a month, while the Trefler Foundation pledged an amount equal to 50 percent of the pass price of each eligible PegaWorld registration sold during a given period.
The money raised during the fundraiser was the largest donation Girls in Tech has received in history and will be used for classroom courses to help women broaden their technical skills and implement four Hacking For Humanity hackathons to enable new community-oriented solutions, created by participants.
Girls in Tech currently has 43 chapters in 32 countries with the mission to educate and empower women who are passionate about technology but may not have the resources to succeed or are barred by gender inequality. The company also hopes to use the donated resources to add more chapters around the globe and expand funding for female start-up founders through their business pitch competition.
“I’m extremely thankful for the opportunity to be at PegaWorld and share my vision for a technology industry that not only supports inclusivity, but actively advocates for it and all the benefits it can bring,” said Adriana Gascoigne, founder and CEO, Girls in Tech, in a press statement. “We’re very grateful for the record-breaking generosity shown by Pega and the Trefler Foundation and look forward to seeing how this funding will change the lives of women around the world.”
